7 killed in gunfight between Indian army and militants in Kashmir

According to an Indian police senior official in Kashmir, three militants fled from the clashes while three Indian soldiers were wounded.

The four terrorists who were killed by security forces in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday were local residents.

In occupied Kashmir, Indian troops in their stepped-up state terrorism killed four youth in Kulgam district, today. Two soldiers laid down their lives in the line of duty, while three others sustained injuries in the encounter.

The Indian army spokesman claimed the force seized four weapons from the site of the encounter. Security forces should be allowed to do their job, people should not interfere in operations where they get injured or have to face teargas (shells).

A confrontation later erupted between Indian security forces and large crowds of local youths who gathered to mourn the dead militants. Reports said two slain men belonged to each outfits. "Two of our soldiers killed while three are wounded", Indian military spokesperson told media. In the evening, at least two armed terrorists appeared at Redwani and paid gun salute to the two militants buried in the village graveyard.

While a civilian, identified as Ashaq Rishi, died earlier on Sunday, another injured civilian, identified as Mushtaq Ahmad, 22, succumbed in hospital taking the death toll in this gunfight to eight. "Several Indian soldiers were killed while many of them suffered disabilities".

Despite that some people are coming out and also attempting to help the militants that has become a new challenge for security forces in Kashmir and sometimes also lead to causalities.

The killing of the civilians conjured a mixed response with the separatist leaders calling for a valley-wide strike. While most of the Valley remained peaceful, clashes took place on Monday between stone-pelters and security forces in Baramulla district and in Srinagar.
