Retired General Keith Kellogg, who has been the White House National Security Council chief of staff, was named acting national security adviser.

Kellogg, 72, was born in OH and served 36 years in the military: in the army in Vietnam, as a special forces officer in Cambodia, and during the first Iraq war as chief of staff for the 82nd Airborne Division.

Other possible picks: Former CIA Director David Petraeus, retired Vice Admiral Robert Harward and former National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley.
