Rare Kroos goal helps Madrid to comeback win over Napoli

Sergio Ramos was replaced in the 70th minute of Real Madrid's 3-1 win over Napoli on Wednesday after taking a knock to the right knee.

Madrid could perhaps have had more but will travel to Naples on March 7 knowing they already have one foot in the last eight for the seventh year running.

Real Madrid, still without the injured Gareth Bale, hosts the first leg of their clash, with James Rodriguez getting a rare start under Zinedine Zidane on a big stage. Gareth Bale, however, was not in the 18-man squad after only just returning from an ankle problem.

The visitors went ahead in the first half via a superb Lorenzo Insigne strike which caught Goalkeeper Keylor Navas sleeping.

But Insigne had other ideas and he put Napoli in front when he raced onto a ideal threaded through-ball by Marek Hamsik before spotting goalkeeper Keylor Navas way off his line and stroking a low bouncing effort into the net from fully 35 yards.

Real will feel good about this result, but that away goal means Napoli still has life.

But Real Madrid battled back to make it 1-1 at the half when Karim Benzema headed home Dani Carvajal's cross 10 minutes after the opening goal.

Diego Maradona had given Napoli a pre-match team talk in a bid to instill belief of achieving an upset, but Kroos' clever finish from a Cristiano Ronaldo cross and a thunderbolt from Casemiro effectively killed off those hopes early in the second half.

Wow. That's just an unbelievably ideal shot from a guy who has totaled just three goals for Real since 2013.

Insigne stunned Real Madrid early on with a heads-up play.
