Sargento recalls 7 cheeses for possible listeria contamination

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture says the manufacturer of Amish Classic Colby deli horn cheese has recalled several lot numbers and instructed wholesalers and retailers to stop selling their stock.

The notice of contamination came from MDS foods, a supplier that sources Meijer-brand cheese from Deutsch Kase Haus, which is based in Middlebury, Indiana.

The recalled cheeses were packaged in Wisconsin, Sargento said.

Consumers can check if their product is affected by the recall by visiting and using the "Product Check" tool. The affected products bear establishment number M/P-34013 or M/P-34733 surrounded by the USDA mark of inspection.

Finally, Ready Fresh Go Fruit and Hatch Pepper Cheese in a Clamshell package are recalled, with UPC number 41220-03680 and best by dates January 19, 2017 through February 16, 2017.

The recall prompted Taylor Farms to recall 6,630 pounds of chicken and pork salad products that may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

The Sara Lee recall involves 734 cases of cheese distributed in Alabama, California, Louisiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Texas. The cheese types included Colby, cheddar, and Swiss.
