To sustain in the ever growing Indian telecom sector and to combat Reliance Jio, incumbent operators such as Airtel, Vodafone India, and Idea Cellular came out with nearly similar plans offering similar perks. From similar offers to mergers, we've seen it all.

State-owned telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which has the maximum reach among all carriers but operationally insecure, is trying to up its game with 1GB of free data being offered to users who have a BSNL connection but do not use its Internet services.

The BB249 offer was expected to last for 6 months, putting its expiry date on March 31, 2017 - same as Reliance Jio's Happy New Year offer.

BSNL said it has "decided to give a special free offer for smartphone users to promote digital India drive and to increase Internet users in prepaid mobile services".

To make sure users make the most of this scheme, BSNL also waived off any installation charges on BB249 scheme, which means users just pay Rs. 249 per month to get the broadband service at home.

This move comes as reliance Jio effect after the announcement of Jio Prime membership programme. The mobile data will be valid for 28 days.

The various revised packs offered by BSNL are data packs, and the 339 pack is the only one offering bundled services that include data and calling facilities to the customers. BSNL has been doing that for quite some time and here is a new step that BSNL has taken which will, in the end, facilitate the users only.
