Former Trump National Security Adviser Was Paid To Advise Russian Firms

Michael Flynn, was paid a total of $56,200 in 2015 by three Russian firms owned by or closely tied to the Kremlin, new documents released by congressional Democrats appear to show.

When I asked Flynn about his 2015 Moscow trip, he said "I didn't take any $ from Russian Federation".

Flynn was interviewed by an RT correspondent onstage, and was famously seated at the same table as Russian President Vladimir Putin during dinner.

The new documents obtained by the committee also detail that Flynn received $11,250 from Volga-Dnepr Airlines in August 2015, a Russian airfreight company that the United Nations had suspended from its list of approved vendors after a corruption scandal involving an indicted Russian United Nations official.

As the former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, Flynn was obligated to inform the agency of the trip.

Flynn, who was forced to resign in early February for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his phone calls with the Russian ambassador to the US, Sergey Kislyak, was also paid $33,750 to speak at a gala celebrating the 10th anniversary of Russia's state-sponsored news agency, RT, in December 2015.

The White House has claimed Trump was unaware of Flynn's work on behalf of a foreign government when he selected Flynn to serve as national security adviser.

Flynn, who was receiving classified briefings as part of the campaign, published a controversial op-ed shortly after Trump's election calling for better U.S. -Turkey relations. The speaker's bureau took a cut of the payments, the documents show.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-California, the senior Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said Thursday that Flynn had not been asked to testify at a public hearing the committee will hold on Monday - the first such session since it launched its investigation of Russian meddling.

Cummings, the senior Democrat on the House Government Oversight Committee, noted in a letter addressed to Trump, Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James Comey, that Flynn also received $11,250 from a Russian charter airline and $11,250 from the USA arm of Kaspersky, a prominent Russia-based cyber security company. Russian prosecutors have charged a manager at the company with treason, saying he and two Russian information-security officials were "interacting" with USA intelligence officials, according to a defense lawyer in the case.

-Maryland sent a letter Thursday to President Trump, FBI Director James Comey, and Defense Secretary James Mattis that accused Flynn of "violating the Constitution ... by accepting tens of thousands of dollars from an agent of a global adversary that attacked our democracy".

RT, the Kremlin-controlled television network, paid $45,386 to Flynn Intel Group, Flynn's consulting firm, for his appearance at an event held on December 10, 2015, invoices reveal.

Cummings has also requested that the Defense Department take steps to recover all foreign funds accepted by Flynn that may have been in violation of the Emoluments Clause.

The email promised to cover all travel costs.

Word of Flynn's paid work on behalf of Russian entities adds to the mystery swirling around reports of Trump campaign officials' links to the Kremlin.
