Togolese global Francis Kone was the hero of the hour when his quick-thinking quite possibly saved the life of an opponent during a Czech First League game at the weekend.

According to a report in the Mirror, Berkovec collided with his own defender Daniel Krch in the 30th minute and collapsed. Kone immediately bent over the goalkeeper, reached inside his mouth and pulled Berkovec's tongue out, which the goalkeeper had swallowed.

After the game, Berkovec thanked Kone for saving his life.

"It wasn't the first time I have done that", Kone told Czech media.

Berkovec appeared well enough to show his gratitude to Kone via Facebook.

The forward has been praised for his quick thinking by many involved with the clubs, while Berkovec also took to Facebook after being released from hospital, saying, "I would like to thank Francis Kone for rescue and emergency at today's game". It's something like the fourth time. I know if I found myself about to swallow my tongue while unconscious on a soccer field, I'd be glad if Francis Kone was there to save me.

"I am grateful for the prompt help and one again thank you", he concluded.
