Waukesha School District spokeswoman Terry Schuster said Bell could attend the public events with 17-year-old Waukesha West junior Ava Tarantino, but she said district policy bars from the dance guests who have been involved in drug, alcohol or violent criminal incidents.

Last week Tarantino tweeted Bell a bet, that if her message could be retweeted 500 times, Bell would have to be her prom date.

However, Bell is too old, per district policy, and also has a past marijuana bust on his record, which means he would not be allowed to attend.

"You can Google Mr. Bell", she said. She's up near 2,000 now, so Bell agreed to attend.

Jim Tarantino doesn't know the details of Bell's past, but he wonders if Bell speaking to students about overcoming mistakes would be beneficial.

Bell served a two-game suspension from the National Football League to start the 2015 season for the infraction and has since completed his probation program.
