Planned Parenthood Would Need to Quit Abortion to Keep Federal Funding
The Donald Trump administration has reportedly told the nation's largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, that it can maintain its hundreds of millions of dollars in annual federal funding as long as it stops performing abortions altogether.
But the American Health Care Act does freeze Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood, which provides these services to about two million women annually, for one year. She further adds: "Offering money to Planned Parenthood to abandon our patients and our values is not a deal that we will ever accept".
House Speaker Paul Ryan, of Janesville, has said that other providers could provide services other than abortions that are offered by Planned Parenthood. This comes after Rokita co-sponsored a bill that aims to strip federal funding from Planned Parenthood.
Trump, who in 1999 declared himself "very pro-choice", said during the presidential campaign previous year that he had evolved on the issue and abortions should be banned except in instances of rape or incest of the woman.
But he said there are other organizations - such as locally run pregnancy centers - that also provide the same health services as Planned Parenthood, but they don't get public funding.
Politicians are renewing their attacks on reproductive health care at a time when we've made historic progress.

LiveAction launched a campaign in January exposing the almost non-existent prenatal care services provided at Planned Parenthood clinics and the incentives it gives clinics to meet abortion quotas, including throwing pizza parties for employees when they reach their goal. Because Planned Parenthood is a key safety-net provider serving many low-income women, men, and young people, numerous patients they serve are insured through the federal Medicaid program.
For over a century, Planned Parenthood has provided Americans with a host of healthcare services, saving lives and empowering people - especially women - to make choices about their own bodies.
"It is a fact that the TrumpCare proposal that defunds Planned Parenthood next year would eliminate access to critical screening and resources for women across the country", House said.
Still, in 2014, conservative news websites circulated reports that Planned Parenthood associates were negotiating fetal tissue prices from abortions, which they were selling for scientific research.
Although the proposal was never formally offered, Planned Parenthood officials have strongly rejected such a proposal. Because of increased access to preventative healthcare, as provided by Planned Parenthood, abortions are at their lowest numbers since Roe v. Wade.
Numerous individuals involved in the pro-life movement are aware of that and are taking a different route by trying to defund Planned Parenthood.
