SNL's 'Weekend Update' Will Reportedly Air in Primetime for Four Weeks

The primetime edition of Weekend Update will air four 30-minute episodes starting August 10 at 9 p.m. on NBC. TVLine confirmed that the Weekend Update segment of Saturday Night Live will have a four-episode long run Thursday night edition this summer, starting on August 10. They went live about an hour following Vice-Presidential nominee Mike Pence's address to the convention and the country.

The late night segment, hosted by SNL writers Colin Jost and Michael Che, is set to air four primetime specials later this year. Weekend Update-with its consistent and recognizable format and topical content-may be the flawless vehicle with which to expand SNL's popular current-event coverage and sharp critiques of the current administration.

So far this season, "Saturday Night Live" originals are averaging a 3.57 rating in adults 18-49 and 11.022 million viewers overall in "live plus seven day" averages from Nielsen Media Research. "SNL" has been honored twice, in 1990 and 2009, with the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award and cited as "truly a national institution".
