The government agency made a decision to pull the sites back down at 2 p.m. on Friday after determining digital services were potentially at risk.

Treasury Board officials will provide details today about an online "vulnerability" that forced the shutdown of a number of federal services over the weekend, including electronic tax filing at the Canada Revenue Agency.

CRA said suspending the online services was a precaution, not the result of a successful hack or breach, and that maintenance security patches would ensure all information would remain safe.

CRA said it wasn't aware of any actual "unauthorized access to taxpayer information".

Walters couldn't immediately say how many Canadians have already submitted their financial information to the CRA site this year.

Affected services included My Account, My Business Account, Represent a Client, the MyCRA mobile application, the MyBenefits mobile application, Netfile, EFILE and Auto-Fill My Return. The tax return deadline is April 30. Previous year 84 per cent of people submitted their returns online.

Canadians have until May 1 to file their income tax returns and benefits, which makes the current period a busy one with online users.
