Xbox Game Pass announced by Microsoft

The Xbox Game Pass includes over 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 games for $9.99 per month. It seems like this has industry support as well with companies like 2K, 505 Games, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Codemasters, Deep Silver, Focus Home Interactive, Sega, SNK, THQ Nordic, Warner Bros and more participating in this program. Interactive Entertainment and Microsoft Studios have all signed on to provide games for the service.

'One of the best things about Xbox Game Pass is that you can discover and download the full titles directly on your Xbox One, ' Spencer said. Over 100 Xbox One titles will join the service, including some backwards compatible games from Xbox 360.

Perhaps most importantly, Xbox Game Pass gives you access to current-generation and previous-gen titles. For Xbox Game Pass subscribers that renew their subscription after a while though, the rotating list of games means that they can't be sure to always have access to a game they previously played months or years ago.

According to Kotaku, the Xbox Game Pass will start rolling out today as an exclusive for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Once it launches, Game Pass will give members discounts on games they try, and games will cycle into and out of rotation.

Sony currently offers a similar service with PlayStation Now, but its library of over 450 games doesn't include any from the current PS4 system. So you'll need both subscriptions if you want to access the library and play online games. However, those few members of the Xbox Insider Program will have access today as they test it out.

The subscription service will sit alongside Xbox Live Gold, which itself costs $60. Microsoft hasn't revealed the exact timing of the full launch, but it should occur within the next three months.

Xbox head Phil Spencer just announced a new way for players to enjoy the games they want for an unlimited amount of time. Those are solid, and while we know there will be some indies, it looks like there will be top-tier games as well.
