Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Director Renato Solidum Jr. said the first quake originated at the Batangas fault, while the other two quakes originated at the Manila Trench and were not related to the first. It was measured at 6.0-magnitude.

The first tremor last Saturday, measuring magnitude 5.6, was recorded at 3:07 p.m.

The tremors were widely felt because the earthquakes were too shallow - just between 24 and 27 km deep.
