Australia to help India train 4 lakh trainers, assessors

Australian Minister for Education and Training Simon Birmingham on Tuesday said India is a significant opportunity for the educators of his country and Australia will contribute to education, which is a strategically important sector.

The two leaders also agreed to deepen cooperation in defence and security as well as in education.

Talking on training Junior commissioned officers of armed forces as trainers and assessors to fill the shortage of trainers, Rudy said: "The young trained junior commissioned officers who have long trained in many technical aspects of Indian armed forces... generally they retire young after 20 years of service".

"Both India and Australia recognise the central value of education and innovation in the prosperity of our societies", Modi said while jointly addressing the media here with Turnbull following their delegation-level bilateral talks.

India and Australia on Monday inked six pacts, including the one to boost counter-terror cooperation, seeking strong action against those financing and providing sanctuary to terror groups.

In a fast-paced delivery, Mr Turnbull will be making an announcement on the area while in Mumbai - home of India's Little Master, Sachin Tendulkar. Turnbull made his comments during an official visit to India.

A joint statement released after the talks said the two leaders "recognised that India and Australia share common interests in ensuring maritime security and the safety of sea lines of communication".
