BJP National Executive meet begins in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of BJP National Executive Meet here today, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday said Odisha will be Prime Minister Narendra Modi's laboratory for testing various "pro-poor welfare schemes".

Mr. Shah did not spare any words when it came to the opposition and the apprehensions expressed over the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Laying great stress on improving the party's organisational structure, Amit Shah said that working committee members, including union ministers, will be asked to devote some of their time for organisational work. "It is only then it will be called golden era for the BJP", Shah said.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, despite the Modi wave in many parts of the country, the BJP could manage to win only one seat from Odisha.

Shah's comments, at the party's national executive at Bhubaneswar, come weeks after the ruling party at the Centre stamped its domination of the country's political landscape by securing an unprecedented and overwhelming mandate in Uttar Pradesh. Amit Shah said that we need to work toward this.

The BJP also challenged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to accept the open challenege of Election Commission to hack EVMs.

The BJP chief himself plans to travel for 95 days till September, and the itinerary does not include visits already planned in connection with the Deen Dayal Upadhyay centenary celebrations, said law and IT minister Ravishankar Prasad while briefing reporters on the proceedings, held in-camera.

All senior Bhartiya Janata Party leaders are heading for Bhubaneswar for a two-day session of the party's national executive, seen as its launch pad for the 2019 general elections. Taking a dig at the Naveen Patnaik government, he said it has failed on the governance front and as a result, Odisha is much behind other states on development parameters.

Clad in an all-white, Modi stood on the footrest of his Range Rover, beamed and waved at the people who had gathered on both sides of the road with lotus flowers in their hands to greet him.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive at the state capital by 3.30pm.
