All of the measures to make life more affordable for British Columbians add up to some serious cash: the party is pledging $717 million in new spending for the current fiscal year.

A $500-million prosperity fund that was supposed to consist of revenue from liquefied natural gas earnings, which Horgan calls Premier Christy Clark's "fantasy fund", will be used to eliminate tolls on two of the Lower Mainland's busiest bridges over the next three years.

When challenged on how the NDP would pay for any expansion at the Delta-Richmond crossing, Horgan said it would be paid for like any other capital project.

The platform also commits to revitalizing the forestry industry by creating 114,000 rental, social and co-op homes over a 10-year period using wood products from B.C.

De Jong says the NDP's plan "is not possible" unless one of two things happen: "an operating deficit, or massive tax increases", adding it's not sustainable and can not co-exist with a balanced budget.
