DOJ Said Yates Needed To Consult White House On Russia Testimony

Schiff said he only wanted Comey to testify if it was not behind closed doors.

House Speaker Paul Ryan is maintaining support for embattled House intelligence committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (NOO'-nehs). The typically bipartisan panel has been torn by disputes over Nunes' ties to Trump's campaign and questions about whether he can lead a probe independent of White House influence.

As has been suspected by Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, Nunes's sources were the same White House that he is supposed to be investigating.

Former White House officials have told NBC News that the administration should be able to quickly discern who signed Nunes into the building.

Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the committee, said he had confidence in Burr. Yates, it was reported after Trump fired her, had notified the White House of Flynn's lie-although the White House only acted when the news of Flynn's meetings went public. While the hearing was canceled, Spicer said Tuesday the White House was not opposed to her testimony.

When asked at a press conference Tuesday morning if he thinks Nunes should step down from the investigation, and if he knows who Nunes' source was, Ryan answered simply, "Uh, no and no".

Putin also said he's ready to meet with President Donald Trump at an upcoming Arctic summit.

Spicer's comments come as the leaders of the House intelligence committee are trying to get their Russian Federation investigation back on the rails, according to Schiff.

"If they choose to move forward, great, we have no problem with her testifying, plain and simple", said Spicer. "We have yet to receive a response".

The committee leaders were trying to agree on a common set of initial witnesses, Schiff said, an issue that prompted the cancellation of both an open and closed hearing this week.

And on Friday, Nunes cancelled all of this week's scheduled committee meetings, including a public hearing for the testimony of former Obama administration intelligence director James Clapper, former CIA director John Brennan and former acting Attorney General Sally Yates.

Shortly afterward, Nunes announced that Trump associates' communications had been were caught up in "incidental" surveillance, a revelation President Trump used to defend his unproven claim that his predecessor tapped the phones at Trump Tower. The Senate intelligence committee is doing its own investigation, and since late July the FBI has been conducting a counterintelligence investigation into Russia's meddling and possible coordination with the Trump campaign.

Rubio spoke Thursday at a Senate intelligence committee hearing on Russian meddling in the US presidential election.

Trump said he hoped a second go-around would be more successful "because everybody really wants the same thing, we want greatness for this country that we love". The Washington Post reported she was blocked from testifying at a hearing originally expected for Tuesday because the topics she meant to discuss were covered by what's known as executive privilege. Such a statement, however tepid, does no favors for Rep. Nunes and only fans the flames on what's providing to be a heated week for the committee chairman. "He's done a great job chairing a very hard committee and has the full confidence of the Republican conference, the Republican leadership and myself.and a host of others".
