The highest prices in North Dakota were reported in the Williston area, with some gas stations in the northwest corner charging upward of $2.44 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.

Gas prices averaged $2.27 a gallon in Houston Sunday, rising 5 cents a gallon and continuing the steady increases on recent weeks, GasBuddy said.

Gas prices in South Central Ohio decreased by nearly seven cents this week to $2.327 per gallon, according to AAA East Central's Gas Price Report.

Gas prices hit a 19-month high last week and AAA says they continue to climb as more expensive summer-blend gasoline becomes available and spring travelers hit the road for the holiday weekend and spring break.

The nation's cheapest gasoline prices could be found in SC, where prices averaged $2.12 per gallon.

The region made its final switch to summer-blend gasoline last week, which caused states in the area to top the list of largest weekly increases: DE (9 cents), Vermont (6 cents), Maryland (6 cents), North Carolina (5 cents), Rhode Island (5 cents), ME (5 cents) and Pennsylvania (5 cents).

The national average is $2.41.
