Trump won't say if he has confidence in Bannon

After President Donald Trump removed Steve Bannon from the National Security Council, the rift between two White House factions - one headed by the chief strategist and other by Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner - grew more apparent than ever.

In an interview Tuesday with New York Post's Michael Goodwin, the president appeared to be distancing himself from Bannon, the man who played a key role in drumming up support for Trump in the final months of his presidential campaign.

"The only person on the White House staff that I know was opposed to my being hired was Steve Bannon, so that's my guess", Abrams told CNN's Erin Burnett in a February 14 interview.

"General [H.R.] McMaster has returned the NSC to its proper function", Bannon said, referring to Trump's National Security Adviser.

Breitbart news has hit back at reports that it toned down its coverage of Donald Trump aide Jared Kushner.

After having a big impact late in Trump's campaign right through the early days of his presidency, Bannon is reportedly losing favor with his boss. "I am committed to doing whatever it takes to win this election, and ultimately become President because our country can not afford four more years of the failed Obama-Clinton policies which have endangered our financial and physical security".

Notice how Trump distances himself from Bannon like he did after campaign adviser Paul Manafort became toxic due to his ties to Russian Federation.

The former president's chances at recapturing the office, though, seem highly unlikely - at least from a qualifying standpoint. The council is typically responsible for disqualifying the majority of registrants for making it to the final candidates list.

Last week was pretty bad for White House chief strategist Steve Bannon. A factor, allegedly, is Trump's annoyance at Bannon being described in media profiles as a "shadow president" or the brains behind Trump's nationalist philosophy, something that was bound to affront Trump's enormous, fragile ego.

Bannon, a former executive chairman of the Breitbart News website, once said the media company was a "platform for the alt-right".

The president ordered Kushner and Bannon to sit down and work things out Friday at Mar-a-Lago.

The turmoil occurs as the White House approaches Trump's 100-day mark without a signature legislative accomplishment.

Kushner enjoys a broad portfolio in the White House and, most importantly, influence with Trump. The other is married to Ivanka Trump. Remember, a family meeting was partially responsible for Corey Lewandowski's firing as campaign manager in the primaries.
