Confirmed: 'New Mutants' Casts Wolfsbane and Magik

The news will come as no surprise to anyone who has been following development on Josh Boone's The New Mutants movie, but The Hollywood Reporter has just confirmed what has been long rumored: Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, The Witch) and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones, Doctor Who) are officially set to join the New Mutants cast. It's penciled in for an April 13, 2018 release. "Also in the mix will be an alien named Warlock". While their involvement with Josh Boone's upcoming X-Men spinoff isn't exactly surprising - given that they've been linked to it for a while now - the confirmation is certainly nice to have.

Writer/director Josh Boone reportedly began talks with the two actresses a year ago, but couldn't confirm the casting until the film was fully greenlit. Williams will play Wolfsbane, a Scottish mutant who has the power to transform into a wolf (duh) and struggles with her religious beliefs.

Taylor-Joy scored the role of Magik, the younger sister of Colossus (who appeared in Deadpool) who is a sorceress and uses teleportation discs to travel. Drew was right on the money as Fox has indeed announced that Williams will be playing Wolfsbane and Taylor-Joy is Majick in an adaptation that looks to be hewing pretty closely to the Claremont/McLeod/Sienkiewicz source in terms of team line-up. Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt are producing.

It's been more than a year since Taylor-Joy and Williams were first linked to the Marvel Comics roles and, since then, no one has really been keeping it a secret.
