Reynolds, Lively surprise McCarthy on TV show

Sure, Alec Baldwin's impression of Trump has been great, but there's something about McCarthy's Spicer that has even topped that.

And it did: Guest host Melissa McCarthy returned as Sean Spicer, riding a motorized press room lectern through the streets of NY, before submitting to a passionate kiss from the commander in chief. After some of his classic attempts to answer questions (one involving Russian nesting dolls) he drives his podium to NY to find President Trump and confront him about his possible firing.

On Saturday's "SNL" we saw how comedy can humanize our view of a person, as McCarthy turned Spicer into a sympathetic character.

Spicer then told Trump he couldn't do this anymore, which led the President to say how much he cares about Spicer and even request a kiss.

The real-life Trump was reportedly upset earlier this year with "SNL" having a woman play his press secretary. Period. OK? Then he hired lawyers to agree with him.

No doubt he will not care for the skit's ending, which had McCarthy's Spicer and Baldwin's Trump making out. "And then I get off, and I have all of these texts, like 'Oh, my God, are you looking at what's happening?"

Melissa McCarthy's return as Sean Spicer on Saturday Night Live provided a brief comic respite from a truly stressful week in political spin.

President Trump's surprise dismissal of Comey left the White House staff scrambling for hours to explain why. After insisting that "his friend", would never fire him, Spicer begins to worry. We wonder if Kimberly Guilfoyle is doing the same dance while thinking about the job she's about to take from incumbent Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

That wasn't the only sketch for Baldwin's Trump.
