"Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive Saturday

The food bank partners with Jonesboro letter carriers each mother day weekend to collect nonperishable food items.

All you need to do is leave a non-perishable food item in or by your mailbox or you can deliver it to your local post office on Saturday, May 13. "Please try to give the most nutritionally sound foods; items like peanut butter, canned tuna, beans, low-sugar cereals and pastas are optimal".

In last year's drive, nearly 78,000 pounds of food was collected in Sioux Falls and the goal this year is to reach 85,000 pounds. Items in glass containers and expired items won't be accepted. If customers didn't get bags, any bag can be used, the website states. Think about the people we serve.

Let's make 2017 the year we stamp out hunger in our community!

This is the 25th anniversary of the food drive, which has grown into a national effort that provides assistance to the millions of Americans struggling to help put food on the table. "I love it... When I leave that day, my truck is full with contributions", said Michael Eure, a letter carrier with the post office in Downtown Beaufort.

Since the first national Food Drive in 1993, the Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has collected more than 1.5 billion pounds of food; last year's drive brought in a record 80 million pounds of food.
