World's heaviest woman leaves hospital 715 pounds lighter

She is all set to leave India and fly to Abu Dhabi to receive further treatment. She will be discharged Thursday from Mumbai's Saifee Hospital after losing 330 kg over three months.

Eman Ahmed, 36, who was formerly known as world's heaviest woman, weighing more than 500 kg, has finally been discharged from Mumbai's Saifee hospital on Thursday post her treatment for weight loss. "Her weight has reduced to 177 kgs", Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, bariatric surgeon who led the team of doctors treating Eman at the city hospital, told today.

And while she weighs 176kg now, she may not be able to walk unless her treatment in Abu Dhabi is successful. The 37-year-old's sister has said the hospital's claim are bogus and questioned the hospital's claims of her weight loss.

Abd El Aty was put on a special liquid diet in India to reduce her weight enough so that doctors could perform bariatric surgery.

In a telephonic talk on the famous Egyptian TV show el- Ashera Masaan, presented by Wael Al-Ibrashi, Shaimaa claimed that her sister had only lost 30 to 40 kg and the hospital had not taken her weight since her arrival. "I am thankful to India and the doctors in India for helping my sister", she said.

She took to her Twitter handle and had said that Eman is ideal and fit.

EgyptAir cargo airbus 300, fitted with medical equipment for shifting Eman to Abu Dhabi, took off at 7.41 pm from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, an airport official said.

Bariatric surgery may be an option if you have severe obesity and have not been able to lose weight or keep from gaining back any weight you lost using other methods such as lifestyle treatment or medications. "She would be discharged from Saifee tomorrow at 10.30 AM", said Lakdawala.

Sawant later said, "There are some lessons to be learnt from Eman's case. She will need multiple surgeries to straighten her hips and knees".

She was treated by Lakdawala and a team of around 15 doctors from various disciplines since she was brought here from Alexandria on February 11 this year.
