Pacquiao wants a rematch with Mayweather

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach admits that the end is near but he believes Manny Pacquiao still has something left in the tank going into this Sunday's title clash with Jeff Horn at Suncorp Stadium.

"If Manny wins and struggles we might have to think about calling it a day".

"Possibly, yeah", the bespectacled trainer replied when asked if Pacquiao might again pull off a rope-a-dope against Horn, just like he did nearly eight years ago when he fought Miguel Cotto. I love the fans shouting and cheering for me, or for Horn.

While Horn has age on his side - at 29 he's nine years younger than Pacquiao - the fight represents an enormous leap in class for the Brisbane challenger, who has quit his former life as a school teacher for what can only be described as a dream opportunity against an all-time great. I was talking about Manny's fight coming up and he said "I fought him in the amateurs". I look at his eyes between rounds to judge his spirit.

Despite the potential for disaster, Roach is confident Pacquiao will prove his class once again and then move on to open talks with the victor of Mayweather v Conor McGregor after the summer.

Roach warned that Horn "can derail us really badly".

"With Mayweather, you have to look good against an opponent, you have to be impressive". "So he's someone that we have looked at a lot, and to land the same punch that Marquez did in the fight - the big overhand right - that's definitely what we're looking for", he added.

"But I will not let emotion get the better of me and Jeff knows that".

"If he struggles in this fight, it could be over", Roach said.

Sen. Manny Pacquiao (59-6-2, 38 KOs) is all set to return to the boxing ring after a triumphant comeback fight last November 2016 against American Jessie Vargas.

Asked specifically what the fallout would be if Horn (16-0-1, 11 knockouts) somehow won, Roach said "depending on how he lost, I would probably encourage him to retire".

"I'm doing numbers in my head all the time on how much punishment he might be taking - how he's going mentally, how he's coping".

"But he has shown signs of the old Manny at training".
