Monalisa Perez, 19, told authorities she was making a video with boyfriend Pedro Ruiz III, 22, outside their home Monday night that involved her shooting a book Ruiz was holding to his chest.

According to KSFY, the incident took place outside a home in Halstad, Minnesota.

On 6:30 p.m. Monday, the Norman County Sheriff's Office responded to the 500 block of U.S. Highway 75 in Halstad on the report of the shooting. It was not immediately clear when or if a trial for the manslaughter charges against Perez would begin.

"He had told me about an idea. It was just a prank gone wrong", Claudia Ruiz said of the couple, who were expecting a second child.

She used a.50 caliber Desert Eagle firearm which authorities recovered from the grass near the house.

She said he replied, "Because we want more viewers, we want to get, you know, famous".

The couple were trying to see if the bullet would go through a book. Perez says that eventually Ruiz convinced her to shoot the book.
