Qatar crisis: The latest developments

President Trump said last week that Qatar had to put more effort to fight the funding of terrorist groups.The President said it's time for Qatar to put an end to funding terrorism.

Defense Department spokesman Lt. Col. Roger Cabiness told CNN Wednesday that the sale "will give Qatar a state of the art capability and increase security cooperation and interoperability between the United States and Qatar".

In November, under the administration of Barack Obama, the United States approved a possible sale of up to 72 F-15QA aircraft to Qatar for $21.1 billion.

A few weeks ago America also sealed a deal with Saudi Arabia, selling them weapons worth $100 billion (£78.4 billion).

The Pentagon said the jets sale will increase security cooperation between the USA and Qatar and help them operate together.

The deal reaffirms the traditionally close ties between the two countries, and contradicts the position Trump took in the White House on June 9.

"We share our views to resolve this problem and remain impartial, but we say what is wrong without hesitation", he said on his return to Ankara from Kuwait on Thursday.
