Director of the Institute of Development Studies, Professor Melissa Leach, has been appointed as a CBE for services to Social Science, in the Queen's Birthday 2017 Honours List.

And Sir Paul McCartney, who was knighted 20 years ago, is set to become a Companion of Honour, which can only be awarded to 65 members.

And 78-year-old Bernard Kenny, who was stabbed as he intervened when Thomas Mair attacked MP Jo Cox in his home village of Birstall, West Yorkshire, has been awarded the George Medal.

"Importantly it's recognition for all the brilliant people who work behind the scenes with our national teams and who do such incredible work".

A HOST of people from across the Bradford district have been included in the latest Queen's Birthday Honours list, which celebrates its centenary this year.

In a break with tradition, the Queen's Civilian Gallantry List has been released at the same time as the monarch's birthday honours.

Rugby star Best has been awarded an OBE for his services to the sport, having racked up 104 caps for his country and playing 13 years with Ulster.

Donnellan and Nick Ormerod have both been awarded OBEs for services to theatre and theatre design respectively.

On Twitter he said: "Honoured and proud to receive an OBE today".

It's a bit surprising Julie Walters didn't already have a Damehood given her acting CV, but at the age of 67 she's received the honour in recognition of her contribution to drama.

Other notable recipients within the entertainment industry include comedian Billy Connolly who will receive a knighthood for services to entertainment and charity.

The Pewsey man was also honoured for his time as a Magistrate and he later became Chairman of the Bench.

I don't mind who it is, I will just be very pleased to go there because I've never been to the Palace and it will be a lovely experience, I'm sure.

Half of this year's honorees are women, while 10% are from black and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds.
