Ajax's Abdelhak Nouri suffered serious, permanent brain damage after collapse

Ajax midfielder Abdelhak Nouri has suffered serious and permanent brain damage after he collapsed during Saturday's friendly against Werder Bremen, the Eredivisie club have confirmed.

The 20-year-old is allowed to be moved and is expected to be taken to a hospital in Amsterdam for further care.

On Monday, Ajax said Nouri was "out of danger" with his "heart undamaged and functioning as normal", but added his brain function could not be tested properly as long as he is kept asleep.

Tests today have sadly revealed the extent of Nouri's brain damage, which according to a club statement is said to be "serious and permanent".

A further tweet said: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his loved ones in this hard time".
