India won't allow China to build roads in Sikkim sector: Defence experts

China has alleged that the Indian troops are on its soil, but both Bhutan and India say the area in question is Bhutanese territory.

Stressing the fact that Doklam belongs to China and has always been under the effective jurisdiction of China, Ambassador Luo said "now the ball is in the court of the Indian side".

The Chinese state-run media hurled the latest salvo in the escalating war-of-words between India and China, calling for Sikkim's "independence" and recommending that Beijing should support "pro-independence appeals" in the Indian State.

The flashpoint is the contested border region of Doklam in Bhutan, which is claimed by China as part of its Donglang region.

"Anyone who knows basic rules of worldwide relations knows that so called security concerns of India is to trespass the defined boundary to enter the territory of neighbouring countries", he said. "China always strictly follows relevant conventions and Chinas activities in relevant areas does not breach the convention or the ground situation", he said.

While the cold vibes between the two sides are in full display over the Doklam stand-off, with China markedly ratcheting up the rhetoric - both in Beijing and their embassy in New Delhi - a meeting between the two leaders would help bring down temperatures.

Defence Minister ArunJaitley last week said that the India of today is not the same as that of 1962, a retort to China stating that India would do well to remember the "historic lessons" of its defeat in the war fought over Arunachal Pradesh. Though the Chinese are clearly annoyed at Indian troops stalling road work in an area that is near the tri-junction, Bhutan has strongly protested the intrusion on its territory.

"I don't understand why building of a road by China can bring serious risk to India. India has no other option but to see that China does not built this road". We urged the Indian side to withdraw troops back to the Indian side of the boundary immediately.

Beijing, in turn, has accused India of violating an 1890 border agreement between the United Kingdom and China that previous Indian governments have pledged to uphold, and it should be respected to end a "very serious" incursion by India. "Using the excuse of 'helping Bhutan protect its sovereignty, ' India brazenly obstructs China's road construction in Chinese territory", it added.

The piece further points out that if China were to highlight India's sensitive issues, it would certainly be a decisive card to play against the country.

It said it was because of India that "Bhutan has not established diplomatic ties with its neighbour China or any other permanent member of the UN Security Council".
