Except how it achieved such a feat might be more complicated than the certification implies.

Recently, 4:44 executive producer No I.D. 444.tidal.com and the "Sprint" password will now unlock the album download, both as.mp3 or lossless FLAC files.

The milestone means the material has either sold or been streamed one million times. "Another platinum adds to an already iconic career".

The album was released exclusively to Tidal and Sprint members around midnight on June 30. Tidal's subscribers are comparatively low to the other streaming platforms like Spotify, and like many music fans, Snoop is clearly not a subscriber.

JAY-Z's "4:44" has gone platinum five days after its release.

And it still keeps its RIAA certification.

On the title track, the star responds to Beyonce's Lemonade album - which appeared to chart a breakdown in her marriage to Jay-Z - and apologises for cheating.

This achievement is especially gobsmacking since the album, its songs and its associated video materials were only available through Jay-Z-owned TIDAL for pre-existing subscribers of the music streaming service and U.S. carrier Sprint, which owns a one-third stake in TIDAL.

JAY-Z's latest honor marks his 13th platinum solo album, the most of any hip hop artist in history; he has 17 platinum albums total.
