Martin Landau, the Oscar winning actor famed for his role as Bela Lugosi in the film "Ed Wood" and Rollin Hand in "Mission: Impossible", has passed away at the age of 89.

The tall, lanky Landau also was nominated for Oscars as best supporting actor for his role as a visionary auto maker's partner in Coppola's 1988 Tucker: The Man and His Dream - the role that revived his career - and as a man who kills his mistress in Allen's 1989 Crimes and Misdemeanors.

What may surprise many people out there now is that Landau had an opportunity to play another part in a classic series in Star Trek.

Nimoy then replaced Landau on Mission: Impossible when he left in a salary dispute.

"I think if they don't like what I'm doing, they'll say something", he told the Los Angeles Times.
