Pistons acquire Bradley in trade with Celtics

The Detroit Pistons acquired guard Avery Bradley from the Boston Celtics in exchange for forward Marcus Morris, the Pistons said on Friday. Avery Bradley's net worth is unknown, but Avery Bradley's salary is estimated at $8.0 million. Thanks to the deal, Detroit avoids hitting the tax apron, allow the core of Jackson, Drummond, and Harris to play another year together, improve at shooting guard (for a year), and clear space for the young guys to prove themselves off the bench.

Vince Ellis and Chris Thomas of the Free Press went on Facebook Live to dissect the Pistons' trade with the Celtics for Avery Bradley, and decision to let Kentavious Caldwell-Pope leave, July 7, 2017.

The trade leaves Marcus Smart as the longest tenured player on the Celtics roster.

Still, there's a reason Bradley is so coveted. If Bradley departs after one season here, Van Gundy had better do something significant with the salary-cap space, or this gamble will have failed. Bradley is also noted for his defense, having been named to an All-Defensive team twice. Even with the addition of Hayward, defensively the Celtics would probably struggle at the SF position where LeBron seems to be very comfortable when playing against the Celtics. Now, both Crowder and Morris are options there.

We'll have to wait and see if more moves are coming for the Celtics.

Detroit is also netting a second-round pick for 2019 in the deal. Given that limitation, the Celtics did well. The reason for the move is that Boston wanted to take advantage of Bradley's stock rising as he has blossomed to one of the toughest point guards to score on. That's exactly the scenario the Pistons now face. The Pistons yesterday also signed free-agent power forward Eric Moreland and free agent guard Langston Galloway.

Caldwell-Pope averaged 13.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last season, while Bradley averaged 16.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. The interesting team to watch here is Atlanta, as he played at Georgia and would be an upgrade on Tim Hardaway Jr., who got a large offer sheet from the Knicks that the Hawks are unlikely to match. He'll nearly certainly take whatever he can get as a restricted free agent.

The Pistons lose Morris, who has been a steady veteran and a mainstay in the starting lineup over the past two seasons.

In a vacuum, adding Morris to the mix in the Bradley deal makes Crowder expendable. He shot 39 percent from the 3-point line on 5.0 attempts per game and is considered one of the league's top perimeter defenders. Caldwell-Pope could yet develop into a player the Pistons regret jettisoning.
