"U.S. bombers and Republic of Korea fighters are just two of many lethal military options at our disposal", said Lt. Gen. Thomas Bergeson, U.S. Forces Korea deputy commander.

The 10-hour mission came three days after North Korea tested an intercontinental ballistic missile on Fourth of July, America's Independence Day.

North Korea has accused Washington of pushing the peninsula to the "tipping point" of nuclear war after a practice bombing run by two U.S. planes.

The US Air Force B-1 bombers flew near the heavily fortified Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) as part of the training exercise.

On Wednesday, the US and South Korean militaries fired simultaneous ballistic missiles in a simulated attack against the DPRK, as a "strong message of warning".

"Of course, as always, you have our absolute support in your efforts to ensure peace and stability is restored on the Korean peninsula", Mr Turnbull said.

The drill follows a joint artillery and missile exercise by South Korean and U.S. forces a day after the North's ICBM test.

Abe condemned what North Korea said was the successful test-launch of an ICBM, saying such a provocation "shows North Korea has no intention of holding serious dialogue".

In an expression of his frustration about China's dealings with its defiant neighbor, Trump wrote on Twitter on Tuesday, "Perhaps China will put a heavy move on North Korea and end this nonsense once and for all!"

The B-1B bombers, which have the largest conventional payload of any Air Force bomber, sent to Korea were meant to reinforce that message. This would be longer and higher than any other previously tested missile.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited a mausoleum honouring state founder Kim Il-sun on Saturday, the anniversary of his grandfather's death, the North's official KCNA news agency reported.
