Northwestern Professor, Oxford Clerk Arrested In Stabbing Murder

Andrew Warren, a senior treasury assistant at Somerville College, University of Oxford, and #Professor Wyndham Lathem, a Northwestern University professor, have surrendered themselves to the police. Lathem is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning.

Professor Wyndham Lathem surrendered at a federal courthouse in Oakland at about 7:30 p.m Pacific Time and the University of Oxford employee Andrew Warren turned himself in to the San Francisco Police Department at around 6:30 p.m.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Frank Conroy said Saturday that fast-paced surrender negotiations through an attorney began late Friday afternoon and that by evening, Wyndham Lathem arrived by auto at the courthouse.

Lathem, an associate microbiology professor, and Warren, a Somerville College resident at Oxford University, will appear separately in court before being extradited to IL, where they face charges of first-degree murder.

Warren, a Somerville College resident at Oxford University, was taken to the San Francisco County Jail.

The men will be attending separate court hearings. It was not immediately clear when that would happen. CPD got word a short time ago that they have both been taken into custody without incident.

The two men are expected to first appear before a judge in California before their likely extradition to Chicago.

Lathem, 42, and Warren, 56, were wanted in the July 27 slaying of Trenton Cornell-Duranleau. Police have not said why the suspects were in California and have not released details on what led up to the murder.

Police said there is no surveillance video of the encounter at the library and were at a loss to explain the donation.

Investigators speculated that the suspects may have made the donation because of a feeling of remorse, he said.

Authorities haven't disclosed a possible motive for the killing.

Cornell-Duranleau, who grew up in a small town in eastern MI, moved to Chicago previous year after getting a job at a salon in the city.

Speaking with USA Today, Mr Guglielmi said: "Police arrived at Lathem's apartment shortly after an employee at the building's front desk notified authorities of an anonymous call about a crime in the professor's apartment".
