Square Enix Announces 'Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition' for Fall 2017 Release

Pocket Edition is an "all-new adventure that retells the beloved story of Final Fantasy XV", Square Enix said in a press release. No, not that Windows version. You know what? I'll let the trailer speak for me here. Especially if they beef up the Pocket Edition a bit by offering the full game all at once (no chapter separation) and offering other Switch-exclusive content that may not be on mobile. Jokes aside, that's a pretty specific thing to say about one's future plans. You've got your cute character models, your fully-voiced cutscenes, actual combat and maybe even some fishing?

The Final Fantasy XV - Pocket Edition's story will span 10 episodes with all 10 available at launch so no anxious nail biting waits.

Of course, since Square Enix has worked alongside NVIDIA to bring the title to the PC, it will support NVIDIA Ansel right off the gates. This didn't come as too much of a surprise since all of the Final Fantasy games have been making their way to Steam in recent years. Optimized for touch controls and quick play sessions, it will mimic numerous same gameplay experiences and narrative set pieces of the original game, but with exaggerated cartoon-like character models. Some of these have appeared in NVIDIA GameWorks games past like the Witcher 3, however, these effects do tend to obliterate your game's frame rates, so hopefully, Final Fantasy XV is highly optimised to allow for a wide range of hardware to run it. I can't imagine this will contain the complete XV experience, but it will be interesting to see just how much makes it into the mobile version.
