TORCH wielding white supremacists chanted Nazi slogans as they marched through a United States university last night to complain that white history was being erased from America's identity.

Skirmishes broke out near the Rotunda between the white nationalists and counter-protesters, including some students.

Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, spoke out against the rally on Twitter Saturday morning.

Virginia's governor has declared a state of emergency involving violent clashes between hundreds of protesters in Charlottesville, Va. The Red Wings add they are "exploring every possible legal action as it pertains to the misuse of our logo in this disturbing demonstration". The city on Monday approved a permit for the alt-right rally only if was held in McIntire Park.

A Michigan-based white nationalist group called the Detroit Right Wings uses the Red Wings' logo.

At about 11:40 a.m., police appeared and ordered everyone to vacate the park. The auto then rapidly drives away in reverse as several people lay on the ground injured.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is representing the event's organizer - right-wing blogger Jason Kessler - in a lawsuit filed August 10 against the city of Chartlottesville and City Manager Maurice Jones.
