Jaguar Land Rover models to be electric or hybrid from 2020

The announcement of the new E-type Zero Roadster comes as Jaguar Land Rover announces the electrification of all its vehicles from 2020.

Alongside the Jaguar E-Zero launch at the firm's Tech Fest event in London, the British manufacturer also confirmed that all its cars would offer electric power in some capacity from 2020, featuring fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid engine options. No other reproduction or distribution is permitted without prior written consent.

It wasn't wrong. It's called the E-Type Zero and it's a fully-electric version of the iconic auto that Enzo Ferrari once called "the most handsome vehicle ever made".

The vehicle, a 1968 Series 1.5 E-Type, was restored and converted by Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works in Coventry. The vehicle was built by their classic auto division Classic Works.

Aside from electric vehicles, JLR is also dabbling with driverless cars.

The first is an electric version of the iconic E-Type of the Sixties. The hybrid autos reduce fuel burn by being able to drive short distances or boost performance with the help of electric motors.

- "We are future-proofing our heritage", says JLRCEO Ralf Speth. That's a future vision Jaguar Land Rover is exploring with Sayer, the connected steering wheel that could be the only part of the auto you own.

Remember 'Sayer', your trusty steering wheel companion from the future, able to attach to a semi-autonomous auto to take you places? Designed from the ground up as an electric SUV, the stunning-looking thing makes good use of the inherent differences in packaging in electric cars without going all weird and oddball in its design.
