Brazil nursery arson attack: Four toddlers burnt alive

Around 50 people were injured, 15 of them seriously, as the blaze ripped through the Innocent People nursery in Janauba, south-eastern Brazil.

The mayor of Janauba, a city of about 70,000 in Minas Gerais state, has declared seven days of mourning.

The guard, identified by authorities as 50-year-old Damiao dos Santos, set himself alight at the scene and later died of his injuries in hospital.

A security guard, who has still not been named, threw gasoline over children at the nursery, and over himself then set fire to everyone.

About 80 children were in the nursery school when the attack occurred, prompting anxious parents to converge on the site which they found reduced to ashes.
