The San Francisco 49ers will start Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback this week.

Coach Kyle Shanahan met with his quarterback room on Tuesday to inform them of the promotion for Garoppolo, who came to San Francisco after the Niners shipped a 2018 second-round pick to the Patriots ahead of last month's trade deadline.

Garoppolo was expected to take over the starting job for the 49ers after the franchise traded for him four weeks ago.

Garoppolo played the last 1:07 during last Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks after C.J. He played the final three snaps and completed both his passes, including a touchdown throw to receiver Louis Murphy rolling left as time expired.

It comes as no surprise fans wanted Garoppolo sooner rather than later.

Two injured in shooting at NY shopping mall
Wallkill Police Department released a statement, saying: "TWPD is investigating a possible shooting at the Galleria Mall". Two people have reportedly suffered gunshot wounds in an incident at a NY shopping mall.

None of his 96 career passes have been intercepted. The 49ers (1-10) play Sunday against the Chicago Bears (3-8) in Soldier Field, located about 30 miles from Garoppolo's hometown of Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers drops back to pass against the Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium on November 26, 2017. He finished with four touchdowns, six interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 69.2. With Beathard dealing with a knee bruise and hip strain, Shanahan likely felt compelled to go with the only fully healthy option, Garoppolo.

If he does want to become a franchise quarterback, Garoppolo will have to prove his worth in the final five games of the 49ers season.

Shanahan said previously that whoever starts must get all of the practice repetitions beginning with Wednesday's session.
