Apple reportedly planning an iPhone SE 2 for Q1 2018

The current generation iPhone SE has been particularly popular in emerging markets like India, where consumers like Apple's premium branding, but likely don't have the money to drop $800 to $1,000 on a flagship iPhone. The A11 Bionic processor in the iPhone 8 would be nice, but we wouldn't be surprised if it didn't feature in the much cheaper iPhone SE 2.

Looking at the actual tech specifications, the Apple iPhone SE 2nd edition is expected to borrow the internals from the Apple iPhone 7. Earlier reports claimed that the iPhone SE sequel will start shipping in Q1 2018 and will be manufactured by Wistron, which is the same company that assembles the iPhone SE in India.

It's not yet clear if Apple will tweak the design, which cleaves to the same look of the raging iPhone 5s. This will effectively be Apple's "budget" iPhone, which the company will primarily push in markets like India and China.

Although the iPhone SE hasn't been refreshed since its 2016 launch, Apple did double the storage of the devices to 64GB and 128GB in March of this year. For imaging, the device might come with a 12MP primary camera and a 5MP selfie camera at the front.

Earlier this month, a note from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested Apple's 2018 plans included a high-end device with a 6.5-inch OLED display, as well as a 5.8-inch device (also with OLED) and a 6.1-inch device with LCD. With it's all-screen design, OLED display, lack of home button and sensor array, it looks unlike any iPhone we've ever seen. Also, it is tipped that the iPhone SE 2 might be priced starting from $450.
