Bihar Stampede: Four killed several inured during Katik Purnima Puja

At least three people were killed and about 10 others injured when a stampede broke out in Bihar's Begusarai district on Saturday, November 4.

Devotees had gathered in large numbers at the Simariya Ghat on the banks of the Ganga on the occasion of Kartik Purnima and Ardh Kumbh.

Former Chief Minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav tweeted, "Saddened to hear the news of stampede at Ganga ghat during Kartik Purnima bathing ritual".

According to the information, the injured have been admitted to the nearby hospital.

Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed grief over the incident and also announced a compensation of 400,000 rupees (6,000 US dollars) each to the families of those killed in the stampede at Simaria Ghat.

The identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained. One of them hailed from Noorsarai in Nalanda and another from Sitamarhi.

According to PTI, ADG (Headquarters) Sunil Kumar Singhal also said the deaths were caused due to suffocation.

Begusarai SP Aditya Kumar said that the three who died were women and probably died of suffocation. "The IG zone and DIG range will also take stock of the situation".
