Outrage Bubbles Up After Texas Sheriff Threatens Owners of 'F**k Trump' Truck

A Texas sheriff is looking for a truck with an anti-Trump display on the window - and implied that he might seek criminal charges against the owner.

The controversy began when Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls posted a now-deleted photo of the truck on Facebook, saying he wanted to speak to the driver and bringing up the idea of a possible disorderly conduct charge.

"If you know who owns this truck or it is yours, I would like to discuss it with you". The Facebook post has since been deleted after receiving nearly 20,000 comments and more than 10,000 shares, but no license plate number was visible in the photo.

The sheriff posted a photo of a portion of of the Texas law for "Disorderly Conduct" in the comments section "for the point of discussion". But Fonseca, whose husband owns the truck, told a local ABC affiliate that the sticker has certainly attracted significant amounts of attention. "No Sheriff Nehls, you can't prosecute speech just because it contains words you don't like", ACLU said. "They honk their horn, they give you a thumbs up, there is some negativity because we're in a diversified community, but the plusses outweigh the negativity", said Forsenca.

Nehls posted a photo of the truck on Facebook after, he said, he'd received several complaints about the display from unhappy people in the Houston-area county. "They want to shake your hand".

"(2) makes an offensive gesture of display in a public place, and the gesture or display tends to incite an immediate breach of the peace".

"Due to the hate messages he has been receiving toward his wife and children, the sheriff will not be commenting on the matter further", spokeswoman Caitilin Espinosa said by email.

Nehls in his post said that a county prosecutor told him the message could warrant a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. However, Nehls also specifically cited the "offensive language" on the truck as a cause for concern.

"I want to reach out to the owner of this truck and say 'Hey, listen, the last thing we need to do is have any type of confrontation over the language on your truck", said Nehls during a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

"We are aware Troy is interested in abandoning his responsibilities as Sheriff weeks after being elected to serve Fort Bend", Olson campaign spokesperson Chris Homan responded.
