A woman who approached the Washington Post with unsubstantiated and dubious allegations of sexual misconduct against Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore appears to be connected to conservative activist James O'Keefe, the Washington Post reported Monday evening. After a series of interviews, the Post began fact-checking Phillips' allegation and background, which became increasingly inconsistent throughout the reporting process, the paper said. Earlier in the day, reporters from the newspaper saw Phillips walking into the NY offices of Project Veritas, a conservative group with a long track record of targeting Democratic groups and major media outlets, often by hiding their identities and using hidden cameras. The page was meant to raise money for a move to NY, where she would be working in a job that would help her take on the mainstream media. She also asked Post reporters how her claims would affect Moore's candidacy if she chose to go public.

"We always honor "off-the-record" agreements when they're entered into in good faith", executive editor Martin Baron explained.

On Monday morning, the reporter tailed Phillips to an inconspicuous storefront in Mamaroneck, N.Y. The storefront turned out to be the offices of Project Veritas.

Phillips acknowledged the ad as hers, but she said the job had fallen through - and that it had been a position she interviewed for at the Daily Caller, a conservative news website.

While O'Keefe refused to comment to Washington Post reporters at the time, he later came outside to speak with journalist Aaron C. Davis, though he did not answer any questions regarding the employment of the potential fraudster.

Argentine gov't may dismiss navy head for missing sub
The US Navy said it had deployed unmanned underwater vehicles, or "mini-subs" equipped with sonar, to join the search. President Mauricio Macri has ordered an inquiry to "know the truth" about what happened to the San Juan.

'But this so-called off-the-record conversation was the essence of a scheme to deceive and embarrass us.

Phillips later met with McCrummen, who was accompanied by Washington Post videographers, and claimed she wanted Moore "to be completely taken out of the race". Of the two donations listed on the page, the Post says one was made by someone with the same name as Phillips' daughter. That publication told the Post it had no knowledge or record of Phillips interviewing for a job there.

Ms Phillips denied being in contact with Mr Moore's election campaign before abruptly cutting off the meeting. That information shows Phillips says she worked as a loan partner at NFM Lending in Smyrna for a few months in 2016.

'Because of our customary journalistic rigor, we weren't fooled, and we can't honor an "off-the-record" agreement that was solicited in maliciously bad faith'. 'I think I'm just going to go'.
