Conductor Charles Dutoit and Principle Dancer Marcelo Gomes Accused of Sexual Misconduct

The women accuse the man of 81 years and the principal conductor of the royal philharmonic Orchestra of London of sexual misconduct in the margin of the rehearsals and concerts in five cities - Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and Saratoga Springs, in the State of NY.

The orchestra statement says the facts should be determined by a legal process and Dutoit "needs to be given a fair opportunity to seek legal advice and contest these allegations".

In statements sent to CNN on Thursday, both the Boston Symphony Orchestra, where Dutoit has been a guest conductor, and the San Francisco Symphony said they have severed ties with him.

SAN FRANCISCO - The stellar career of world-renowned conductor Charles Dutoit has come crashing down in the wake of sexual assault accusations by three singers and a musician. He allegedly grabbed her breasts on two occasions, according to her - once in a vehicle, and once behind the curtains, just before they went on stage. In a statement, the RPO announced it will relieve Dutoit, 81, of upcoming concert obligations as artistic director and principal conductor.

Joe Kluger, the orchestra's former president, said that Dutoit's "extremely flirtatious" manner was a factor in twice turning him down for a music director position. Dutoit also did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the AP. On Dec. 3, New York's Metropolitan Opera suspended longtime conductor James Levine while it investigated allegations that Levine had sexual encounters with teen boys.

Retired opera singer Paula Rasmussen described an incident she said occurred in Dutoit's dressing room at the LA Opera in September 1991.

"I never planned on talking about it publicly", she said, but "when somebody asks me point-blank about what happened, I don't see why I should not speak the truth".

"There is nothing wrong with him as a musician, said the woman".

Natasha Gauthier, a writer based in Ottawa, said Dutoit's reputation as a womanizer was common knowledge in the Montreal classical music world and she even wrote about her own unwanted encounter with the conductor in 1995 for a prominent weekly magazine.

"As soon as it was just the two of us in the elevator", she told the A.P., Mr. Dutoit "pushed me back against the elevator wall and pressed his knee way up between my legs and pressed himself all over me". As the music played, she said, he reached for her hand, then tried to grab it repeatedly as she pushed him away.

The Swiss-born Dutoit made his conducting debut in 1959 after a spell as a viola player, and has had a long and distinguished career since, winning two Grammy awards, and stints in other prestigious orchestras across the world.

The women told The Associated Press that Dutoit physically restrained them, sometimes thrust his tongue into their mouths, and in one case stuck one of their hands down his trousers.

The Philadelphia Orchestra has removed Charles Dutoit's title of conductor laureate following allegations of sexual misconduct.

"I never went to the police". She refused to be alone with Dutoit after that, she added.

The statement came in response to an AP story earlier in the day in which three opera singers and one classical musician accused Dutoit of sexual assault and provided detailed accounts of alleged incidents between 1985 and 2010 in five US cities.

When she got to her room, she said she nearly immediately called another singer who had been in the elevator with them.
