The following day, Flynn spoke to a "senior official" on the transition team at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort to discuss "what, if anything, to communicate to the Russian Ambassador about the U.S. sanctions", according to the documents.

The government did not reveal the identity of the senior transition official.

Warner noted that it's the second Trump campaign associate to plead guilty to making false statements, while former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his deputy are facing a slew of charges.

During Trump's transition to the White House, Flynn reportedly has a second meeting with Turkish government officials at the 21 Club, an upscale NY restaurant.

Flynn is now accused of "willfully and knowingly" making "false, fictitious and fraudulent statements" to the feds. The Statement of the Offense included important new details, including that Flynn was directed by a senior transition official to contact Russian officials in an effort to influence Russia's response to the Obama Administration's imposition of sanctions and the UN Security Council resolution vote on Israeli settlements, and, crucially, that he reported back to transition officials.

The action today by the Special Counsel is another indication of the thoroughness and professionalism of Robert Mueller and his team, who have been methodically working towards identifying and prosecuting potential criminal acts.

Flynn and the official discussed that the transition team did not want Russian Federation to escalate the situation, according to the filings, and Flynn called Kislyak immediately after his conversation with the transition official to request that "Russia not escalate the situation and only respond to the U.S. sanctions in a reciprocal manner".

A White House lawyer said that nothing in Flynn's guilty plea "implicates anyone other than Mr Flynn".

Amber Alert issued for 3-year-old from Onslow County
Once they realized she was missing, the couple called authorities. "I just want to hold her tight and see her smile". Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller says the Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined the search for Mariah Woods.

The split from the White House suggested to many that Flynn was about to start coorperating with the independent investigation headed by Robert Mueller.

The charging document makes reference to two separate conversations with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, and to separate false statements prosecutors say he made regarding that communication. Flynn resigned under pressure on February 13, following The Post's disclosure that he had, indeed, discussed sanctions.

The Obama administration, in a rare step that shocked its Middle East ally, planned to abstain on the motion rather than veto it as had been done in the past. That appears to refer to the body's vote a day later to condemn Israeli settlements in the West Bank. On December 22, Trump spoke with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi before the scheduled vote.

The White House, which has long denied any wrongdoing in relation to Moscow, said Flynn's false statements "mirror the false statements to White House officials which resulted in his resignation in February of this year".

"As to the United Nations, things will be different after January 20th", Trump said, referencing his upcoming inauguration.

Comey has previously said that Trump asked him during a private Oval Office encounter if he could let the Flynn investigation go, something the White House has denied happening in the way Comey described.

Given how much interest Trump had taken in Flynn's case earlier in 2017, people are waiting for his say on it.
