Julian Assange's Twitter account goes quiet

The official WikiLeaks Twitter account was still operating but made no mention what happened to Assange's. One tweet features a cartoon of Santa Claus adding WikiLeaks to his "Nice" list as he stares at the organization's Wikipedia entry.

The tweet was later deleted and the Navy later apologized for the mistake.

The big mystery may be that Assange (or whomever else has the keys to his account) accidentally clicked something and didn't realize it until later.

First the WikiLeaks founder's Twitter account mysteriously vanished without warning or explanation (it has since reappeared), and then the U.S. Navy sent a cryptic tweet containing only his name. Without a whistleblower, we may never know.

"#JulianAssange has been deleted off of twitter". Assange's official twitter page on Monday showed, "Sorry, that page doesnot exist!"

Julian Assange is having an odd Christmas morning.

According to the Wayback Machine internet archive, Assange's most recent tweet is from Friday.

We've reached out to Twitter (via email) and Wikileaks (via Twitter DM) for additional information and will update if we hear back. Assange was charged with rape in 2012, following which he took assylum in Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012.

Assange is now living at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, which granted him political asylum in 2012. Sweden has since dropped those charges, but the United Kingdom government has threatened to arrest Assange should he leave the embassy due to a separate warrant.

Twitter has not yet commented on the situation.
