Police say they responded to reports of two armed purse-snatchings in different locations in Greenville on Thursday afternoon.

When Greenville officers arrived, they made contact with the victims inside the business who said they had been robbed at gunpoint by a man who entered the store, pointed at gun at them and demanded money.

Highway Patrol troopers stopped a vehicle that police believe may have been used in the armed robberies at the Kangaroo at Highway 14 and Woodruff Road, Lentz said.

Meanwhile, the other suspect removed all the cash from a drawer at the front desk.

A 29-year-old Yonkers man has been charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, but police have not yet released his name because of the ongoing investigation, which is expected to yield more arrests, city police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said.

The second local robbery occurred around 3 p.m. near the East Carolina University campus. "The two suspects forced their way into the house and robbed them".

The robbery took place on 11th Street near Anderson Street in Greenville. He was wearing a black ski mask, a black hooded sweatshirt and black trousers.

Police thanked the media and the public for their help in "safely apprehending this unsafe robbery suspect". Crime Stoppers offers up to a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
