At least 15 hurt in fire on Florida boat, reports say

The boat was carrying 50 people to an offshore casino boat from Port Richey, about 40 miles north of Tampa, when flames broke out late Sunday afternoon, the Pasco Sheriff's Office said.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. ET.

The injuries included smoke inhalation and chest pains, fire department Deputy Chief Andrew Fossa said. He said the crew chose to turn back veering close to a residential neighborhood as smoke belched and then flames kicked up.

A woman who was on a casino shuttle boat that caught fire in Pasco County on Sunday has died from her injuries, officials say.

The Island Lady regularly shuttled passengers to and from the Tropical Breeze Casino, an offshore casino boat in worldwide waters in the Gulf of Mexico, Fifer told The Washington Post. Passengers had to jump into the cool waters to swim to safety on shore. "I just tried to grab as many people as I could".
