With the upcoming update, there will be a dedicated portion of Google Play, which will keep things more organized. But now, things are changing and the Play Store will be adding a special section for the book lovers with Audiobooks.

That section looks to also show up in Google Play Books. An update for Play Books app specifically mentions "audiobooks", as well as audio playback controls like play and pause.

As per a in 9to5Google, Google has posted a banner ad for audiobooks on the Google Play Store. "At the time of publishing, that link doesn't work and simply 404's, but it seems to be appearing for all users both on the web and within the Google Play app on Android", says 9to5Google. The banner announcing the arrival of the audiobooks was even showing a 50% discount on the purchase of the first Google audiobook.

The link to it now does not work, though that could change very soon.

Currently, the Google Play Store houses a few audiobooks but it is unfortunately not as extensive as the library of Amazon. This clears that the giant will definitely going to add Audiobooks section to the Play Store as the ads are already live on some user's website and mobile apps. It might also mean that not all countries would have access to the new segment from the start.

Besides, sales of audiobooks seem to have gone up in recent years, and Google having its own dedicated storefront will give it some ground to capture if not all but some portion of sales.

Previous teardowns of the Google Play Store app's APK hinted at the pending arrival of audiobooks, which would provide users the option to navigate chapters and track the progress of their reading.

Amazon now dominates the audiobook market with its ownership of Audible, the leading retailer of audiobooks.
