About 2:00 a.m.: Officers arrived at the hotel to assist with the man. He has been charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon and trespassing.

They looked around further and found the firearms, police Lt. Gordon Macintosh told KPRC.

"At this point, our investigators do not believe there was any kind of intent by him to use the weapons or to cause any kind of issue".

Early this morning, police reporteldy found an AR-15 rifle, a shotgun, a handgun and numerous rounds of ammunition in the room of a man whom they originally planned to arrest for drunken disorderly conduct at the downtown Hyatt Regency Houston hotel.

Police say hotel security officers confronted the unruly man early Sunday at the bar at Houston's Hyatt Regency Hotel and called for assistance when he refused to be subdued.

Police were initially called out at around 1.30am and were arresting the "drunk and belligerent man" for trespassing when an officer spotted the ammunition lying in his room.

Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted that the situation was "contained" and authorities aren't aware of any specific threats to the city.

The hotel's annual party Sunday night is one of the city's largest New Year's Eve celebrations.

Investigators are working to learn more about this incident.
